It is with great anticipation that we invite you to join us for the return of the St. Thaddeus Home and Garden Tour on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Suspended since 2020, this biennial tour resumes by showcasing some of the beautiful properties by renowned architect, Willis Irvin.
In the addition to the tour, we are hosting a ticketed lecture at the Aiken County Historical Museum by Linda Johnson, President of the Historic Aiken Foundation on Thursday, April 3, 2025. During this wine and cheese lecture, she will explore the impact Irvin has had on architecture and the properties that carry his name.
This year’s committee wishes to honor all of the individuals who have worked to make this a premier tour on the southeastern circuit. Beginning in the 1960’s, the women of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church have sought to raise money for local outreach organizations and to showcase some of Aiken’s finest homes and gardens. Today, our men and women continue that legacy by donating the net proceeds of the 2025 St. Thaddeus Home and Garden Tour to the Salvation Army, the Overflow Foundation and the St. Thaddeus Soup Kitchen.

Mr. Irvin was known to cater to affluent clients in his residential designs. His goal, he explained in a 1937 promotional catalog, was to create “residential work in that style characteristic of the Old South.” Classical ornamentation and sumptuous interiors were the hallmarks of his work. Irvin was a consummate stylist of the colonial revival, and he displayed his versatility by also working in the Spanish revival, Tudor revival, and neoclassical styles.
